By Liz Wade in Events

IF you are not sure what to do today – Monday, May 1 – then why not go to one of these events?

IWA Canalway Calvalcade, London:

Today is the last day of IWA Canalway Cavalcade in London’s Little Venice, so make sure you join in the fun at the capital’s biggest, brightest and best waterway festival.

Little Venice, situated at the junction of the Regent’s Canal and the Paddington Branch of the Grand Union Canal (GU), is home to this annual bank holiday event, which attracts hundreds of visitors every year.

This unique waterway boat gathering, organised by The Inland Waterways Association volunteers, has been taking place at Little Venice since 1983.

There will be activities for all the family with a boaters’ gathering, a pageant of boats, trade shows and stalls, live music, kids’ activities, competitions, Morris Dancers, a real ale bar, and a wide variety of snacks and food.

It is free to visit the event, which runs from 10am to 5pm, and the nearest tube station is Paddington, on the Hammersmith & City line, which leads directly on to the towpath.

May Day Plant Sale at Hanningfield Reservoir, Billericay:

Members of the Chelmsford Local Group will be returning to Hanningfield Reservoir Visitor Centre, in Hawkswood Road, Downham, Billericay, today for their annual plant sale.

There will be plenty of plants to buy at the event, which runs from 10am to 4pm, as well as home made cakes.

Craft Fair and In The Night Garden Trail at RHS Hyde Hall, Chelmsford:

It is the last day of Hyde Hall’s craft fair today, which runs from 10am to 4pm. The fair, run by Essex Craft and Design Shows, offers something for everyone.

There will be more than 40 exhibitors at the event and there will also be demonstrations and music, and food will be available.

The gardens, in Creephedge Lane, Rettendon Common, will also be launching its In The Night Garden Trail today, which runs until June 30. With a trail leaflet and downloadable app, toddlers can go on a magical journey around the garden via activity points and imaginative play.

Normal garden admission prices apply

A May Fayre will be taking place today at Budworth Hall, High Street, Chipping Ongar, today from 10am to 2.30pm.
